Tattoo Aftercare
Proper aftercare is crucial for your tattoo's longevity and vibrancy. Follow these guidelines for optimal healing.
First 2-3 Hours
Keep the protective bandage on for 2-3 hours after your session. Your artist may use a second skin or traditional bandage—follow their specific instructions.
Important: Do not remove the bandage early, even if you want to show off your new ink!
First Wash
After removing the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and unscented, antibacterial soap. Use your fingertips—never a washcloth or sponge.
- Pat dry with clean paper towel
- Let air dry for 10-15 minutes
- Apply thin layer of aftercare ointment
Days 1-14: The Healing Phase
Wash your tattoo 2-3 times daily with unscented soap. Apply a thin layer of recommended aftercare product after each wash.
Do:
- • Keep it clean and moisturized
- • Wear loose, breathable clothing
- • Stay hydrated
- • Get adequate sleep
Don't:
- • Pick or scratch scabs
- • Submerge in water (pools, baths)
- • Expose to direct sunlight
- • Apply too much ointment
Weeks 2-4: Final Healing
Your tattoo will begin to peel like a sunburn—this is normal! Continue moisturizing with unscented lotion. The peeling usually completes within 2-3 weeks.
Note: Colors may appear dull during this phase. Full vibrancy returns once healing is complete.
Long-Term Care
Once healed, your tattoo will last a lifetime with proper care. Protect your investment:
- Always use SPF 30+ sunscreen on tattooed areas
- Keep skin moisturized for vibrant colors
- Consider touch-ups every 5-10 years
When to Contact Us
Some redness and swelling is normal during the first few days. However, contact your artist or a healthcare provider if you experience:
- Excessive swelling after 48 hours
- Fever or chills
- Pus or discharge
- Spreading redness or rash
