What began as a love affair with coffee beans has grown into a community of passionate people dedicated to the craft.
How it all started
In 2015, founders Maya Chen and James Rodriguez discovered they shared more than a friendship—they shared an obsession with finding the perfect cup of coffee. Both had traveled extensively through coffee-growing regions, learning from farmers and tasting hundreds of varieties.
They started roasting beans in Maya's garage, experimenting with profiles and perfecting their technique. What began as a weekend hobby quickly became something more when local cafes started requesting their beans.
Today, Ember operates five cafes across Portland and ships beans to coffee lovers nationwide. But our mission remains the same: to share exceptional coffee that brings people together.
