A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE
From humble beginnings to world-class destination, Alpine Summit's story is one of vision, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the mountain experience.
THE BEGINNING
Founded by mountaineer and visionary James "Jimmy" Sutherland, Alpine Summit opened with just two chairlifts and 12 trails. Jimmy's dream was simple: create a place where families could experience the magic of the mountains in comfort and safety.
The first season welcomed 3,500 skiers. Word spread quickly about the pristine powder, friendly staff, and breathtaking views. Alpine Summit was more than a ski resort—it was a community.
EXPANSION ERA
Under the leadership of Jimmy's daughter, Maria Sutherland, Alpine Summit underwent its largest expansion. The addition of the Summit Bowl opened 1,200 acres of expert terrain, attracting thrill-seekers from around the world.
The Grand Alpine Lodge was built, featuring 200 rooms, fine dining, and spa facilities. This marked Alpine Summit's transition from local gem to international destination.
MODERNIZATION & SUSTAINABILITY
Alpine Summit invested $85 million in infrastructure upgrades, including eight high-speed chairlifts and state-of-the-art snowmaking systems. But technology wasn't the only focus.
The resort launched its Green Mountain Initiative, committing to 100% renewable energy by 2025, habitat restoration, and zero-waste operations. Alpine Summit became a model for sustainable mountain tourism.

Now in its 57th season, Alpine Summit welcomes over 800,000 visitors annually. With 85+ trails, 12 lifts, 2,780 acres of terrain, and 350" average snowfall, we offer something for every ability level.
