Our Story

A sanctuary for all

Founded on the belief that wellness is a birthright, Sanctuary exists to guide seekers toward wholeness, balance, and inner peace.

Maya Chen's Journey

Sanctuary was born from Maya Chen's transformative journey through burnout, healing, and profound awakening. After a decade climbing the corporate ladder in Manhattan, Maya found herself depleted, disconnected, and searching for meaning.

A spontaneous trip to Bali changed everything. There, she discovered the ancient practice of yoga—not as exercise, but as medicine. She studied with master teachers, completed her 500-hour training in Rishikesh, and trained in trauma-informed yoga, Ayurveda, and meditation.

In 2018, Maya returned to Austin with a vision: to create a sacred space where others could discover their own path to wholeness. Sanctuary opened its doors with a single studio, eight weekly classes, and a commitment to accessibility, authenticity, and transformation.

Today, Sanctuary serves over 15,000 members annually, offering 60+ weekly classes, workshops, teacher trainings, and international retreats—all rooted in Maya's belief that everyone deserves a sanctuary.
