Getting Started
How does MatchUp work?
Create a profile by answering three personality prompts, add your photos with verification, and set your preferences. Each day, you'll receive up to 10 curated matches based on compatibility. When both people express interest, a conversation starts with built-in conversation starters. From there, plan a date and meet in person!
Is MatchUp free to use?
Yes! MatchUp is free to download and use. You can create a profile, receive daily matches, and have conversations at no cost. We also offer MatchUp Premium with additional features like unlimited likes, seeing who liked you, and advanced filters.
What makes MatchUp different from other dating apps?
We focus on quality connections over quantity. Instead of endless swiping, you get 10 curated daily matches. Personality prompts replace boring bios. Conversation starters replace "Hey." And our compatibility algorithm considers 40+ dimensions beyond just photos. We're literally designed to be deleted — our success metric is how many people find lasting relationships and leave.
How do I create a great profile?
Be authentic! Choose prompts that genuinely represent you, upload recent photos that show your personality (not just selfies — include photos of you doing things you love), and be specific in your answers. Profiles with detailed prompt responses get 3x more matches than vague ones.

How does the matching algorithm work?
Our algorithm analyzes over 40 compatibility dimensions including values alignment, communication style, lifestyle preferences, and shared interests derived from your prompt responses. It also learns from your behavior — who you like, who you pass on, and how your conversations go — to improve suggestions over time.
Why do I only get 10 matches per day?
Research shows that too many options lead to decision fatigue and less satisfaction. By limiting to 10 curated suggestions, we encourage you to really consider each person rather than mindlessly swiping. Our data shows this leads to 3x more meaningful conversations and 82% of matches going on real dates.
What are conversation starters?
When you match with someone, our AI generates personalized conversation starters based on shared interests found in both your prompt responses. Instead of struggling with what to say first, you get thoughtful questions and topics that are specific to what you have in common.
What's the 48-hour response window?
Both people have 48 hours to send the first message after matching. This creates a sense of urgency and ensures conversations start while interest is fresh. If neither person messages within 48 hours, the match expires. Premium members can extend this window.
Safety & Privacy
How does photo verification work?
We ask you to take a real-time selfie mimicking a random pose. Our AI compares this to your profile photos to verify you're a real person and that your photos are genuinely you. Verified profiles get a blue checkmark badge and are shown more often in matches.
How do I report someone?
Tap the three-dot menu on any profile or conversation and select "Report." You can choose a reason and add details. Our Trust & Safety team reviews all reports within 24 hours. You can also block anyone at any time — they won't be notified and won't be able to see or contact you.
Is my data safe?
Your privacy is our top priority. All data is encrypted end-to-end. We never sell your personal information. Your exact location is never shared — only approximate distance. You can download or delete all your data at any time from Settings. Read our full Privacy Policy.
Premium
What does Premium include?
Premium includes: unlimited daily matches (instead of 10), see who liked you before you swipe, advanced filters (height, education, lifestyle), priority in the matching queue, extended match window (72 hours), read receipts, and the ability to rematch with expired connections. Learn more.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings > Subscription > Manage. You can cancel anytime and keep Premium features until your current billing period ends. Subscriptions are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), so you can also cancel directly through those platforms.
