Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our farm, products, and programs.

General

Are you certified organic?

Yes! Heritage Farms has been USDA Certified Organic since 1998. We maintain our certification through annual inspections and rigorous documentation of all our farming practices. Our certification number is available on request and displayed at our farm stand.

Where is the farm located?

We're located at 1234 Heritage Lane in Sonoma Valley, California. We're about 45 minutes north of San Francisco and 15 minutes from downtown Sonoma. GPS coordinates and detailed directions are available on our contact page.

What farming practices do you use?

We practice regenerative organic agriculture, which goes beyond avoiding synthetic chemicals. We use cover cropping, crop rotation, composting, and no-till methods to build soil health. We also maintain hedgerows and pollinator habitats to support beneficial insects and wildlife.

Do you ship produce?

We don't ship fresh produce to individual customers as freshness is our top priority. However, we do deliver to wholesale partners within a 50-mile radius. For retail customers, we offer CSA pickup, farm stand shopping, and farmers market locations throughout the Bay Area.

CSA Program

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Members pay upfront at the beginning of the season and receive weekly boxes of freshly harvested produce throughout the growing season. It's a partnership between farmers and community members that provides farmers with working capital and members with ultra-fresh, seasonal produce.

When does the CSA season run?

Our main season runs from May through October (24 weeks). We also offer a winter share from November through March for members who want year-round produce. Signups typically begin in February for the summer season and September for winter shares.

Can I customize my CSA box?

Our standard CSA boxes are curated by our farm team to provide the best seasonal variety. However, members can note allergies or strong dislikes, and we'll substitute when possible. We also offer add-on items like eggs, flowers, and preserved goods that can be customized each week.

What if I'm traveling and miss a pickup?

Members can place their share on hold for up to 3 weeks per season with advance notice. You can also designate a friend or neighbor to pick up your share in your absence. Unclaimed shares are donated to local food banks.

Farm Stand

What are your farm stand hours?

Peak Season (May-October): Thursday-Sunday, 9am-5pm
Winter Season (November-April): Friday-Sunday, 10am-4pm
Closed: Major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day)

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, all major credit cards, and mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay). We also accept EBT/SNAP benefits and participate in the Market Match program, which doubles SNAP benefits up to $20.

Do you sell products other than produce?

Yes! Our farm stand also features pasture-raised eggs from our heritage hens, raw honey from our apiaries, seasonal preserves and pickles, fresh-cut flowers, and artisan goods from local makers including cheese, bread, and olive oil.

Tours & Events

Do you offer farm tours?

Yes! We offer guided farm tours every Saturday at 10am during the growing season (May-October). Tours last about 90 minutes and include a walk through our fields, an introduction to our farming methods, and a tasting of seasonal produce. Reservations are required. Private group tours can also be arranged.

Are the tours family-friendly?

Our tours are designed for all ages. Children are welcome and we have special activities for young visitors, including meeting our farm animals, scavenger hunts, and hands-on planting activities. We recommend closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

Can I host a private event at the farm?

Yes! Our restored century-old barn and gardens are available for weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations. We can accommodate up to 150 guests and offer farm-to-table catering options. Visit our events page or contact us for availability and pricing.

Do you have farm-to-table dinners?

We host seasonal farm dinners throughout the year, featuring multi-course meals prepared by guest chefs using ingredients harvested that same day. These events typically sell out quickly, so we recommend signing up for our newsletter to receive early access to tickets.
